The game begins with Bond and Alec Trevelyan, agent 006, on a mission in Russia to destroy a weapons supply that has been linked to several terrorist attacks of British Embassies around the world. Trevelyan is apparently caught and executed by General Ourumov. Bond escapes and returns to England thinking his partner is dead. When back in London, Bond tries to track down Ourumov. His investigations lead him to a criminal, Xenia Onatopp, who aids Ourumov in stealing the GoldenEye weapons system. As Bond continues his search, he finds out his former friend Trevelyan is not only alive, but also behind the shenanigans. His motives soon become visible, and he plans to attack London with the GoldenEye....

The single-player campaign stretches on for more than 10 hours, and features a good deal of variety. Some levels are designed with stealth in mind while others force combat to the forefront, but you ultimately have the choice in how you play. Multiplayer mode, features the classic four-player splitscreen mode that plays better than ever before. Also for the ultimate 007 Bond experience, there's also an eight-player online option.
